10 FASHION TRICKS TO LOOK TALLER

By Visitor Mary

Petite girls often complain that the looks of certain street style stars would only look good on someone tall. Well, the science hasn’t thought of the ways to add some extra inches to natural height yet, but don’t worry, fashion has its special tricks and tips to make you look taller. Here are some tips to follow.

TIP 1: MAXI SKIRTS

It’s commonly believed that petite women should avoid floor-grazing skirts and dresses, but luckily this folklore has been disapproved by fashion. A well-cut maxi skirt, In fact, can actually give you the appearance of looking taller, as evidence take a  look at fashion designer Mary-Kate Olsen.

It’s better to choose versions that slide through the length of your body, which will create a long vertical line (avoid anything with too many layers.) Be sure to keep your top fitted—a tucked-in T-shirt and a cropped leather jacket, for example—so as to not drown in fabric. Also, make sure the skirt’s hemline is as long as you can go without tripping, and add a pair of wedges or heels underneath.

TIP 2: FLARED PANTS

Well-fitted pants with a particular flare at the bottom create an illusion of longer legs - especially when pants' edge hits the top of the shoes (heels, of course!). It’s important to keep the jeans super-slim through the leg, and to make sure the waistband hits your natural waist- not any lower because it will visually shorten your leg. For not going overboard and creating optimal height, it’s better to pair your flares with a waist-length top, or a blouse you can tuck in.

TIP 3: HEELS WITH LOW-CUT VAMP

Here’s a small trick that will help you choose the right pair of shoes: low-cut vamp shoes make your legs look wonderfully longer and slimmer instantly when you’re wearing skirts, shorts, and dresses.

What’s a vamp? It’s the upper front part of the shoe. So, if you manage to find a pair that matches your skintone, like in the image below, it will help you to give the illusion of mile-long legs.

TIP 4: ALL IN ONE COLOR

One of the highly effective strategies to increase the illusion of height is using color, as it helps create a vertical line. Head-to-toe black is the simplest—and eternally chicest—option but other colors also work excellent. The trick to monochrome dressing is to keep each silhouette neat and fitted.

TIP 5: HIGH-WAIST BOTTOMS

This, in my opinion, is the best way to create the illusion of the longest legs of course when they are worn correctly. Whether you choose skirts, shorts or skinny jeans, be sure to make the waist visible by tucking in a tailored blouse, or choosing a slightly short top.

TIP 6: POINTY FLATS

Since it’s not possibly healthy wearing sky-high heels every day, small girls should better invest in a pair of pointy flats. You will ask why? The reason is obvious -  shoes with pointed toes lengthen your leg line.

TIP 7: VERTICAL STRIPES

It’s probably the most famous trick: As vertical stripes create long lines, they make you look longer.

TIP 8: BAGS OF THE RIGHT SIZE

You should forget about the gigantic shoulder bags. It is a quite smart move for petite girls keeping your accessories suitably scaled to your body size. That means smaller cross-body bags, clutches, and small top-handle totes are the best for you as they don’t swallow your height as big bags do.

TIP 9: SKINNY BELTS

Short girls should be careful when it comes to belts. It’s better to go for a skinny version which will define your natural waist in the best possible way and won’t cut you in half the way like a super-thick belt would cause you look shorter.

TIP 10: V-NECKS

If you want to create an illusion of a longer torso, V necklines are the best way to achieve that.

And in the end I’d like to add 2 more tricks you can do with your hair to create visually taller impression. One of them is piling your hair on top of your head which can obviously make you look taller. The other trick is more like an advice to the petite nice girls who want to go with the trend and grow long hair. Dear ladies, long hair drags you down and makes you look shorter. While shorter hair open your shoulders and neckline making you look much taller.

So, now that you know all the tricks and tips, it’s time to go shopping for the right items and maybe even get a new haircut if you’re daring enough! Good luck!
